The Vermeat Red Standard
At The Vermeat Company, Quality, Sustainability, and Tradition aren’t just words, they’re our promise to you, encapsulated in our Red Standard.
The Vermeat Red Standard is a rigorous set of criteria defining our high-quality beef production. Farms must be located in Vermont and utilize rotational grazing to ensure optimal nutrition and welfare. Cattle must be free from antibiotics and growth hormones throughout their lifespan. In the final 4-6 weeks, a carefully selected, high-quality grain supplement is provided to enhance marbling and taste.
Sustainable agricultural practices are essential, including soil conservation measures and minimal water usage. All farms are vetted by The Vermeat Company’s agriculture panel to ensure adherence to these standards. Even though USDA Organic certification isn’t mandatory for our farms, this guarantees that The Vermeat Red Standard products represent the highest quality in sustainable, locally-sourced, grass-fed and grain-finished beef.
Quality
From Farm to Table, Quality Matters at Vermeat.
Grass-Fed, Grain-Finished:
Our meat comes from cows that have spent most of their lives grazing in verdant pastures and enriched in the final weeks with high-quality grain. This blended diet creates a unique and superior flavor profile, deeply marbled and delightfully tasty. It's a dining experience you won't forget.
We recognize that the topic of grain-fed cattle has been the focus of debate in nutrition circles, and concerns about illness and malnutrition from a primarily grain-fed diet are valid. To us, the bottom line came down to 100% grass-fed meat just tasting like, well, grass. That was a big part of our decision to go with a touch of grain at the end. It's also why our cows are transitioned to a high quality grain diet for only a few weeks. This method maximizes the quality of our final product and ensures a standardized process for finishing the beef during all seasons, avoiding the major problems that go with long-term grain feeding.
We believe in transparency about our practices and are here to address any questions you might have about our cows' diets.
Quality Assurance:
Every cut of Vermeat undergoes a rigorous inspection, ensuring only the highest quality makes it to your table. From farm to butchery, from packaging to delivery, we oversee every step with the utmost care. That’s the Vermeat guarantee.
